SENIOR CAPSTONE

Many underpriveleged schools do not offer art classes, and many low-income families do not have the funds to purchase supplies in order for their children to do art at home. Kids in these circumstances are ones who could benefit from art and imagination the most. Art was always what I looked forward to in school and in my free time and the thought of some kids not having the same creative opportunities as myself, is what fueled this project.

I want to make a difference through the arts and positively impact kids by introducing them to their creative sides which is what inspired Blank Canvas Art Camp. This camp will travel to underfunded and in-need schools, programs, and more to try to reach as many children as possible who don’t get exposed to art often. We will offer projects for the kids to make and have fun with, hopefully further inspiring those interested to continue on with ideation and creativity for years to come.

When branding this art camp, I wanted to create classic and vibrant designs that both kids and adults alike would enjoy. I utilized bright primary colors, as well as clean iconography, as I wanted to practice this skill set more. The logo ties in to my deliverables because it is simple, yet playful - my take on a paint splatter. I also utilized two opposing typefaces, as I thought they contrasted each other nicely.

My goal for this art camp from the start was to bring it to life and see how kids benefit from creativity in person. After planning out an art project and organizing supplies, I went to the Cedar Valley Boys and Girls Club and about twenty kids took part in coloring in letters and decorating flower pots for spring. I could see the excitement in their eyes, and the pride in their creations - one girl even gave me a big hug at the end. I am so happy that

I got to share Blank Canvas Art Camp with these kids.
