Constructed script

Inspired by the well-known MuirMcNeil type design company and their posters, my professor had us follow a similar path, inventing and creating our own constructed script. We made two versions of our constructed scripts and I chose to make one version filled and one outlined.

alphabet & numbers

For weeks I sketched out different letter variations on grid paper, listing the rules of my script and constraining each letter as much as possible to make sure they were all cohesive, which was a challenge, but worth it for the end product to be successful.

The goal was that class by class, I got critiques to help narrow these letters down until my constructed script was strong enough to be created on the computer. I then made these letters in Illustrator, before properly aligning them on a grid in InDesign.

A few of my favorites

The final task of this project was to make a constructed script poster (like the MuirMcNeil ones) that displays our script's name. I named mine "Split" due to the separation of the two forms that create each letter. I feel that this poster tied the whole project together nicely.
