INVISION INTERNSHIP PROJECTS

At INVISION, I was involved in a wide variety of design projects ranging from school environmental graphics and project maps, to a new employee handbook and instagram story icons, in collaboration with their marketing team. Most of the work I did during this internship was a new experience and exciting challenge, as I had never designed graphics for schools, or informational graphics for an employee handbook before. I am beyond grateful for all that I learned and the professional atmosphere I got to be a part of at this summer internship.

DOWNTOWN PROJECTS MAP

I made these project maps for next summer’s interns, as well as new employees who might want to get to know the area better (and know where INVISION projects are located)! I talked with staff members in the office about which nearby projects they’d like featured on this map. Next, I gathered photos, information, and mapped out the streets, before finally adding the project location numbers and the key.

PROCESS

NEW EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK

I started designing new information graphics and icons for the employee handbook, with the goals of adding a bit of interest and splitting up lots of information into a more visually-pleasing layout. I sketched out a variety of ideas for each section of the handbook where a graphic was wanted. I then transferred these ideas into InDesign, keeping INVISION's color palette & typography in mind to maintain cohesion. I did most of the handbook's page layout the last week of the internship, but for privacy reasons, I am just showing the graphics I made.

INSTAGRAM STORY ICONS

The marketing team asked me to create five new icons for INVISION's Instagram story highlights, as the previous ones were stock graphics and not unique to the office. I had a lot of fun sketching out ideas that would correlate to the verbiage well. In the end, I combined a few ideas and decided to work with three colors instead of two, to get the final icons that represent INVISION on their social media.

INDIANOLA HIGH SCHOOL GRAPHICS

This was the first project that I got to be part of during this internship. I did very few environmental graphics in school, so this was a helpful learning experience that I gained early-on. My main focus was making graphics for Indianola High School’s gym walls. My initial sketches inspired the two directions I explored: geometric & “drip” (what we called the vertical pattern). I also experimented a bit with making a word mark for Indianola that tied-in with that pattern.

cedar falls HIGH SCHOOL GRAPHICS

This was a very exciting project to work on, being a former student at Cedar Falls High School! I looked through some of the interior and graphic inspiration photos that were gathered early on and voted on by students and staff. That imagery gave me helpful visuals so I could start creating initial ideas. I made graphics for the gym, strength, and cardio walls, wanting to keep a clean and angular theme throughout the graphics, as that is seen in other places in the high school.
